Hardcore Mode Survival Guide
Hardcore mode arrived in the August 14 update alongside Military Crates. It is Catch 1 Billion Ducks’ high-risk answer to Normal mode: tougher nights, harsher mistakes, and an exclusive reward track.
What changes in Hardcore
- Death is far more punishing than in Normal — aggressive ducks and boss attacks that you could shrug off become run-ending threats. [Exact death penalty unverified — treat as permadeath-style until tested.]
- Aggressive ducks appear more often and bosses hit harder, especially in co-op where difficulty scales with player count.
- Days Survived still drives progression: species unlocks, milestone banners and leaderboard standing all work the same way.
Hardcore Season rewards
The August 21 season-end announcement confirmed exclusive Hardcore milestone freezers:
| Days survived | Reward |
|---|---|
| 25 | Metal Freezer |
| 50 | Spiky Freezer |
| 100 | Duck Slayer Freezer |
Normal mode grants Military / Ghillie / Snipers Nest freezers at the same milestones — cosmetic flexes, but Hardcore versions are rarer.
Survival tips
- Over-upgrade before skipping days. In Normal you can facetank mistakes; in Hardcore, budget one escape per night.
- Dodge lasers sideways. From the Mutant Rubber Duck onward, laser sweeps are the #1 hardcore killer.
- Never start a boss below half health. Wait for regeneration — impatience costs the whole run.
- Double-boss nights (day 19+) spawn two bosses together. Kill one completely before focusing the other, and pre-position in open ground away from trees.
